The Milky Way
Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Joseon. There lived a king who was wise and humble. He was nice to everyone and gave food to the poor. He had a wicked wife that he thought was an angel. He also had a beautiful daughter whose name was Chaerul. The Queen was jealous of the princesses beauty so she forced her to weave every day without stopping.
One day in a village near the palace a man working in the fields in Joseon was awestruck as he saw the princess weaving. The princess gazed into the man’s eyes and they instantly they fell in love. The man’s name was Yeong. The next day Chaerul decided to go out and meet Yeong. When they met, they went to hwawon and they happily danced across the meadow. As they said goodbye they wanted to see each other more so everyday Chaerul went to see Yeong and danced in the flowery meadows.
Later, When the Cherry Blossoms bloomed the queen saw Chaerul sneaking out and followed her. As she saw her dancing with Yeong the queen was enraged because she was jealous of the beautiful princesses’ love. The queen followed Chaerul home she wanted to kill the princess but she didn’t. The next morning Chaerul was getting ready to go meet Yeong but suddenly the queen barged in with guards seizing her. Chaerul was frightened but the queen took advantage of her sudden surprise and said an ancient curse that sent Chaerul flying up in the air as she flew she finally came to a stop in haneul. She lamented over not seeing her love. When the king found out he immediately besieged the queen and threw her in jail. The king could do nothing about her daughter. So he made a trail of milky white doves for Yeong and himself to go see her. So now when you look at the sky you can sometimes see the trail of birds going to Chaerul.
